ABOUT
Born in Tulcea in 1963, he taught himself to paint, then, thanks to the talent and quality of his works, he is employed in a company where religious icons are painted. There, he learns to be a professional iconographer; knowledge, which he will deepen throughout his life. He became a member of the satirical Cenacle called "Haz" in 1982 and together with the other members, goes to expositions with his satirical drawings. After the 1989 Revolution, he founded another Cenacle, called "Spin," and continues to do expositions in his hometown, together with the other members.
Now his works can be found in private collections from all continents, in the most exotic destinations that Orthodox Byzantine icons can be found; starting with Egypt, Argentina, China, to most countries all over Europe. He keeps participating in group exhibitions in Romania (Bucharest, Ploiesti, Tulcea, Târgu-Jiu), France, Italy (Vicenza).
Steadfast in his determination to self-improve, clutching with a multitude of artistic fields; from the design and production of artworks in addition to the painting of Byzantine icons; or from the satirical drawings to the satirical prose "Privatizacii, Revolutia", Liviu Balac surprises with the diversity of materials, the nonconformist ways of conveying the message used in his creations. "All my life I have been painting religious icons, either as a hobby, or professionally. Now I felt the need to unleash myself from the religious canons of the Byzantine arts and to merge with the universe under abstract terms. Let me release my soul, float into the unknown, and let myself be filled by eternity."
Liviu Balâc - Living Human Treasure (Title awarded by the romanian ministry of culture via the UNESCO initiative)
"These are not sculptures, these are beings, the reflections of the infinite into my soul, the flamboyant shapes of living consciousness, they reverberate to the encounter with their twin souls, inviting them to introspection."
